This story is brought to you by Madelyn Putnam, Judi LaCroix, Carol Woods, and Darlene Hurst of The Community Baptist Church (CBC) in Rhode Island, as each dress was lovingly made by them. Thank you so very much.
Debbie and I had the priviledge of handing out almost 100 T-shirt dresses while we were in Haiti, thanks to the group of ladies mentioned above. Each day as we set out we took the dresses with us, not wanting to miss a single opportunity to bless a young girl with a brand new dress. Here is one story.
One afternoon while we were visiting Obenson who is living in a tent city at Delmas 91, we realized we had the best possible scenerio for blessing many girls at once. We asked Obenson if he would go around the tent city and gather the girls, which he gladly did.
My sister Debbie had brought these beautiful bright colored bags which we also had with us and so this is how it went. The girls started coming one at a time. I would fit them for a dress, Obenson’s wife, Idora would help them to change into it, and Debbie and I would take their old outfit and put it into the bright colored bag for them to take home.
Kathi and Kathiana (Obenson’s twin daughters) were sure to teach all the girls that the cool way to hold their bag was over the shoulder and they corrected anyone who wasn’t doing it the cool way.
In just a few minutes the tent was filled with smiling girls, wearing new dresses while sporting a sharp bright colored bag. It was so much fun.
The ladies had also made some shorts for boys and we handed those out as well, and the next day all the boys got t-shirts that had the Homebound Missions logo on them.

This week Homebound Missions has made the following food transfers. Using a company called CAM we are able to purchase food and have it delivered to our families.
- Matthew (Jean Penez) received rice, beans, oil, sardines, spaghetti, and V-8 juice. Matthew is feeding himself, 3 sisters and a brother. He is also giving food to a neighbor who has allowed him to put his tent on their roof.
- Fanfan received rice, beans, sardines, and V-8 juice.
- Obenson’s Family received rice, beans, oil, sardines, V-8 juice, and spaghetti.
These rations will last 3-4 weeks.
Matthew was also sent $10.00 to buy water. He is working everyday doing hard labor to clean up Haiti and he became ill because he went to work without water. He is now earning $5.00 a day. Congratulations Matthew!
